LHU Faculty and Students Experience Do Long’s Fashion Show

In the journey of training in Multimedia Communications, practical experience serves as a vital bridge, helping students transform theoretical knowledge into professional competence. Recently, Ms. Nhu Ngoc, a lecturer in the Multimedia Communications department, and student Nguyen Hoang Gia had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative atmosphere of the "Emerge" fashion show hosted by designer Do Long—an event that garnered significant attention from fashion enthusiasts, beauty queens, celebrities, and the art-loving public.

A Professional Perspective from the Lecturer

Attending as a guest, Ms. Nhu Ngoc did more than just appreciate the fashion designs. She directly experienced the "pulse" of the event: the runway production, program operations, and especially the visual language conveyed by designer Do Long through each collection.

As an educator in visual communication and content production, Ms. Nhu Ngoc constantly seeks real-world experiences to enrich her lectures. "Events like these provide vivid case studies," she shared. "I can analyze specific aspects of visual concept building, stage lighting techniques, or storytelling through imagery—all of which are invaluable lessons that textbooks alone cannot fully convey."

These subtle observations will be integrated into her subsequent classes, helping students not only learn theory but also understand its practical application. From analyzing camera angles and lighting setups to the production process of a large-scale event, everything becomes a dynamic teaching resource, making it easier for students to visualize and retain information.

Students "Gaining Hands-on Experience" in a Professional Environment

Accompanying the lecturer, student Nguyen Hoang Gia took on the role of photographer, capturing key moments of the guests, models, and the stage setting. This was no easy task: the lighting changed constantly, the pace of the show was fast, and there was immense pressure to capture every significant second.

"This is truly one of the most memorable experiences since I joined the university," Hoang Gia shared. "I now have a clearer understanding of real-world workflows, from the close coordination between departments to the rigorous image standards of a professional event. This was also an opportunity for me to reassess my own abilities and better define my future career path."

The skills Hoang Gia honed—keen observation, precise timing, handling complex lighting, and working under pressure—are essential assets for anyone pursuing a career in visual media.

When Lectures Come Alive Through Experience

Following the event, Ms. Nhu Ngoc spent time discussing areas for improvement with Hoang Gia. From selecting camera angles and timing the shots to handling situations when conditions were unfavorable, everything was analyzed and evaluated in detail. This highlights the "learning by doing" method: students not only gain experience but also receive direct guidance and feedback from their lecturers immediately after practice.

"When I bring these images and stories into the classroom, I see that students are much more engaged and learn a lot faster," Ms. Nhu Ngoc remarked. "They don't just listen to a lecture; they see real photos and hear firsthand accounts from Hoang Gia—a classmate who experienced it directly. This creates a huge motivation for them, making them believe that they can achieve similar goals if they put in the effort."

Theory Paired with Practice – A Sustainable Educational Philosophy

The participation of faculty and students at the Do Long fashion show was more than just an experiential trip. It is a vivid testament to an educational method that links theory with practice, where lecturers do not just transmit knowledge from books but constantly update it with real-world experiences from both themselves and their students.

When students are placed in a genuine creative environment, observing their lecturers at work and practicing directly under guidance, they do more than just apply knowledge; they develop a professional mindset and understand the value of thorough preparation and professionalism. This serves as a solid foundation for them to enter the labor market with confidence.

The lessons from that Do Long fashion show will not stop with these two individuals; they will be shared with all students in the Multimedia Communications department through lectures, practical projects, and inspiring stories. Quality education exists not only in the curriculum but also in the vibrant experiences that teachers and students create together.
